  Amputations and Phantom Pain

  has anyone known of a person who has had a limb amputated?

  and then experienced what they call phantom pain?.

  i have seen this first hand and it is quite incredible.

  Thats fascinating. It's almost as if this part of the body, that is missing ,is unable to leave, and exists in it's attachment to the rest of the soul, which is contained in the remaining physical parts. Of course the mind is capable of creating things that arn't there, as in halucinations, but that is visual. These are actual sensations.

  It could also be a trauma defese mechanism, wherein the body can't accept the nature of the injury and remembers all the pathways or sensations, that having the limb ,used to be like.

  Personally, I hope my top theory is right. But if it is, then that means, if we do have a soul, without a physical body, then it might experience pain regardless of matter. that's scary. On the other hand, maybe it is happening, only as a result of still being attached to the physical plain.

  So is this coming from the brain, without the nerves sending a message? If so, then being decapitated might release the whole of the spirit, from the course matter world, to the fine matter.

  I guess we'll find out sooner or later, but for now, I'd like to keep my head where it is.

  i read steve hassan's first book " combatting cult mind control" last year and just started reading with my wife his follow up book " releasing the bonds " put out in 2000. a few quotes i wanted to share with you in case you haven't read it - and to help us keep in mind how far we have come from being mind controlled when we were jehovah's witnesses.

  hassan mentions , " destructive cults are distiguished by their use of deception and mind control techniques to undermine a person's free will and make him dependent on the group's leader.

  he adds, " destructive cults use mind control techniques to keep members dependent and obedient.

  I hope things work out for your wife wobble. There are many distractions and ways to go in this life. It is imperative one listens to there gut. This is getting in touch with yourself, letting your soul be your pilot. As far as all the differing ideas and opinions in life go, when you know these things about yourself, it is much easier to shut out the noise.

  I can't see how fulfilling someone elses agenda, and plans can be beneficial, when we all have our own journey and cup to fill. Unless that is what truly makes one happy. If your not happy, whats the point? Even if you go through life not fully knowing, but have your own life, that is more enriching than surrender. This does not at all, imply selfishness either. It is our destiny, and virtue need not fall at the wayside. So long as one maintains virtue, regardless of a beleif, there is no need to feel bad about family, God, society, or status. What more can anyone ask for? Remember, any pain in this journey will be a great teacher, if you can survive it. This will lead to wisdom and compassion for others, when we can recognize, and see others pain and shortcomings, knowing that we are all in this together.

  There are many illusions in life, and it is easy to lie to yourself. The Bhuda says, If one is to attain any level of spirituality , the first lesson you must learn, is that life is misery. If you don't belive it, just try and figure out, how many witnesses are taking prozac, to mask their unhappiness. I wish you well in your journey.

  Very interesting Flippy. I never considered the other three forms of cult before, but I don't see why I shouldn't now.

  I think even though we can be free, in a sense, by having knowledge of them, on a subconscious level, there may still be parts of it, that we still adhere to, without even being aware. I beleive this is especially so, in cases of born-ins and people who are emotionally dependant on family.

  The cases regarding family ties, are those, in which a need for love, overides our better judgement and the door to acceptance and suggestion, is still left open a little. I think for some, the only answer would be a memory wipe, and re-education.

  Avoidance of cults, must be a lifetime commitment, for some. It's not like quitting a job. Self esteem and acceptance can cause people to regress, even though they may know better, on a conscious level.

  My motto is, if you don't know who you are, what you want, or what you beleive, people will tell you who you are, what you want, and what you beleive. It is a power vacuum. Those born in, never had a chance to figure these things out, and have been influenced in the crucial years of development.

  For those, happiness is a real struggle. Return and be unhappy, or leave and face the dilema, of torturing questions, soul searching, loneliness, vulnerability etc. I'm not saying happiness can't be acheived, it just depends on how big the investment was, and ones ability to accept reality.

  Wow, what an evil, scum sucking maggot! Death is to good for him.

  But this goes to show, that in the eyes of many in the public, the witnesses are veiwed as a life changing, and good thing. There needs to be more public knowledge, so that this ridiculous veiw is put in order. I also know people who have gotten shorter sentences, because of studying with Jehovah's witnesses, only to give them the finger, after they get out.

  It amazes me that witnesses can accept hardened criminals and pedophiles, but they will kick others out, for disagreeing with doctrine or having a fling. It shows where they put their priorities. The witnesses were probably thinking this will be a fine example, for the world to see, how Jehovah can change the heart and how merciful they are. Hipocrates. Image, image, image, is everything to them.

  Cults are like minimum security prisons on a much lesser scale, but this reflects badly on the org. I hope the public wakes up one day. It seems the witness pedophile protection program is running pretty smoothly though, and the courts don't seem to mind, that there are thousands of files that won't be released. I wouldn't be one bit suprized, if the GB pays them off.

  the jw leadership is quite well aware of this, and so it's not exaggerating to say they are heartless in the way they treat former members.

  Nice work Gopher. I have noticed that phenomenon myself, and even mentioned it to others. I live in a very cold climate and also live very much alone, as a result of shunning and having my contacts highjacked throughout life.

  I have always said, that when your alone, the cold bites much harder. I beleive it to be a fact. If only I could have been shunned in Florida.

  They sure hate cartoons. That's not hard to beleive, after watching the Denmark insanity. If this is true, where's are all the ranting chants, of death to Palestine ! They have now insulted Mohameds teachings about mice. I find this hard to beleive and beyond hipocracy and stupidity. Even a two year old, knows what a cartoon is. A fictional character. Just like all the stories in the bible and the Koran, fiction.

  Yes, I beleive they are only trying to create the situation, after the big bang. Not the big bang itself. To tabulate and crunch the numbers, will take 60,000 of the best computers in the world, working simultaneouly, in search of the Higgs Boson particle. They suspect, that this is the particle, that gives everything in the universe it's mass. Apparently there are greater collisions going on in other areas of space, so there is nothing to worry about. I least that's the way I understand it, at this point.

  Stilla, Hmm you got me there, I thought the conventon you mentioned, was "the millions now living will never die." campaign.

  The Reason I thought Advertise Advertise was Russel, was that he was a business man that ran a haberdashery and sold it before starting his rag. ( Oh well 9 out of ten ain't bad.)

  The name of the seat of God I think was in the pleiades constellation or something.
